Second poll questions: When do you wish your musicians would rehearse together?

Ben, I take it this means your answer to my poll question would be "never"? How do you think change would be achieved in your situation? What would be your approach?

We're in a tricky situation at my church where we generally only get the songs that will be used on the Sunday. So there's a general apathy towards practice, because why bother practicing songs that you'll never use.

It generally works alright, as the members in the band have been doing it long enough (some 10 years +) to know most of the songs already. However, this does make it difficult and confronting to bring in new members, and is not sustainable in the long term.

Where the balance lies, I'm not certain.

Hi Ben, It sounds like you'd like to challenge this practice (hah, 'scuse the pun) in your faith community.

I think you are right when you say that your current model of operation excludes alot of potential players. Perhaps you could raise this as a concern. It could be the catalyst for a change of heart.

Why is it you can't you get the list of songs earlier? If you had the songs by the Wednesday before, there would be the opportunity to get together and do something truely creative.

I'd love to know if you think these things are possible. I certainly want to encourage you to speak up on this one. You have some important observations to share.
